As with any project or adventure a successful camping trip requires good planning; basically some research and determining the answers to a series of questions. No answers or the wrong answers to some of the following questions can result in disaster rather then fun. Are reservations required? Many campgrounds require reservations and can be booked months in advance. What are the campground's fees, restrictions and rules? Many campgrounds have nightly or weekly fees for staying there. Some are for adults only, or members only. Your planned campground may have rules regarding noise after a certain hour, which you may find a good thing, or not. Are pets allowed? If so you can be assured that your pet will have to be restrained at all times, on a leash or tied even when in your camp site. Is drinking water available? For remote campgrounds you may find that you have to take your own water. Or the water available may require treatment before you can use it. What are you going to eat? Detailed planning of your meals, snacks, and drinks is the only way to prevent someone from becoming hungry or thirsty. Are fires allowed? Depending on where you will be camping and the time of the year the answer may be no. And if you can have fires you may not find wood laying around to use. What to take? Make detailed check lists (you will find some helpful ones here) to ensure that you have with you not only the things that you need but also those that you want. When will you depart and arrive? Arriving at your campground late and having to setup camp in the dark can start your camping trip on the wrong foot.
